Car battery problems are stressful for any driver, as a worn-out battery can leave you on the roadside waiting for a jump-start. As your Hyundai dealership, we want you to know the signs you need to visit us for a battery service.

3 Signs You Need to Visit Your Hyundai Dealership for a Battery Service

Check Battery LightMechanic Testing Car Battery | Cartersville, GA

The check battery light looks like a line drawing of a battery with + and – signs. It illuminates if any problem is detected that affects the electrical system. Sensors are connected to the battery, alternator, and other electrical system components and can detect even tiny changes in their connected component, for example, an unexpected drop in battery voltage.

The sensors inform your computer of the problem. If the computer can’t correct the issue, it logs the situation with an error code and illuminates the battery light. Our technicians will trace the fault by connecting an OBD II scanner to your computer. This scanner will identify any error codes logged by the computer, and the technicians use this information to trace the electrical problem and repair it.

Damaged Voltage Regulator

The alternator’s purpose is to generate electricity for your Hyundai’s systems and to maintain the battery at full charge. When the engine is running, the alternator begins recharging the battery at 100% power, then drops to a 10% recharging rate after ten minutes. The reduced rate prevents damage to the battery.

The voltage regulator is a small component in the alternator that balances the power generated by the alternator with the demands of the battery and electrical system. It also reduces the battery recharging rate. If the voltage regulator fails due to age or damage, the alternator will continue to charge the battery at full capacity. Our technicians will replace the damaged regulator and test the battery. If the battery is damaged, we’ll install a new one.

Old Battery

One of the main reasons for battery failure is age. The average battery lifespan is three to five years. During this time, the battery steadily weakens as the chemicals that enable it to store electricity gradually break down. As they weaken, the electricity storage capacity drops, and eventually the battery will fail as it can’t supply enough power to start your engine.

We recommend regularly testing the battery starting from its third year, so you have peace of mind that your battery won’t let you down when you need it. Our battery tester will identify any problems or weaknesses in the battery. If your battery is healthy, we’ll test it again next year. If it’s weak or damaged, we’ll install a new one for you while you wait.
